Another pruning workshop day at Habitat Permacultural in September 2024. It was delayed due to the weather, but it was worth the wait. In a short time, we covered several aspects to consider in pruning and even talked about some vegetative propagation techniques. The place and the food were spectacular as always.

Happy with how the workshop turned out in Charrúa and Chaná. The weather, the people and how everything flowed, really a blessing and a great enjoyment. We shared some messages that they sent to us. Thanks again for trusting the proposal. "Thank you very much x everything! I am left with a beautiful experience, looking forward to continue catching more of these experiences!” "Thank you for everything, the philosophical vision of patience that you propose for us is healing in these crazy times."

Just gratitude from Permaculture Uruguay.

Four full days of sharing and learning.

Four days of laughter and enriching silences, of delicious and healthy food, of forest, campfire drizzles, and peace.

We keep walking together, we are the transition.

caracoles grupo In December, Juan started dreaming of these gatherings; today, with the same enthusiasm, we are already looking ahead to the next one, which will happen at any moment.

Thank you for so much! Luis.

Why permaculture..

It is urgent to develop our capacities to face energy decline, climate change, and the external and internal pollution that threatens us.

For this, PERMACULTURE is a tool that has never been as valid and effective as it is today to face the great changes and the challenges they bring.

PERMACULTURE is a holistic design process to create sustainable human settlements.

It imitates nature's models and revalues ancestral knowledge.

What are the main pillars of permaculture?

foto 2

· The restoration and revitalization of all natural systems, particularly native forests.

· Production of organic food in sustainable systems integrated with the environment.

· Reduction of use and sustainable management of renewable resources in water and energy.

· Integrated landscape and bioclimatic housing design.

· Organization of social structures capable of resilience through relocation.

The era of the lone wolf is over, it's necessary to group together, to return to the tribe or the village.

What is understood by resilience?
It is the ability of a community not to collapse in the face of lack of energy, food, or water and to respond to external shocks.

For this, relocation is a tool for change:
local composting, local organic food production, use of local resources, "harvesting" surface water on-site, bioclimatic houses with local materials, support for local producers, barter and fair local trade, local production of art and music.
And a firm NO to globalized consumption.

PERMACULTURE has awakened, worldwide and since the 1970s, the individual and collective spirit to better organize and connect deeply with nature.

IT IS
an effective tool to rethink, reinvent, and rebuild the environment around us in a sustainable way for us and for future generations.
AND THE TIME IS NOW..

What is permaculture for?

Permaculture is used to design sustainable and resilient systems that work in harmony with nature, generating resources and minimizing waste.

What is permaculture?

PERMACULTURE is a holistic design process that mimics nature's models, revalues ancestral knowledge, and is aided by modern science to create sustainable human settlements that are efficient, equitable, and environmentally friendly.

What does Permaculture mean? What does the term Permaculture mean?

Permaculture comes from the English  "Permanent Agriculture," which translates to "Permanent Agriculture." The term was first used in 1910 by Cyril Hopkins to refer to a system of agriculture that would be permanent because it does not deplete soil fertility.

Who invented permaculture?

Permaculture was developed by Australians Bill Mollison and David Holmgren during the 1970s in response to industrialized food production methods and the deforestation they cause.

In 1978, they launched their first book "Permaculture One" and achieved great diffusion through various media such as the press and television. This, along with the courses they began to offer, led to the publication of several more books and their international recognition.

By the mid-1980s, a multitude of their students had begun spreading permaculture around the world.

What benefits does permaculture offer?

Permaculture offers several benefits such as the production of fresh food, greater independence, less waste, less need for resources, soil regeneration, the creation of more beautiful and balanced ecosystems, the creation of social networks, and a way of thinking and acting that positively impacts various aspects of life.

At Permacultura Uruguay, we have been generating almost 100% of our content with free and open-source software for years.

More and more people are using free and open-source software to create content in various areas, such as programming, graphic design, video editing, and music production, among others.

This type of software offers numerous advantages such as flexibility, accessibility, innovation, and security, among others.

The use of free and open-source software fosters collaboration and teamwork, as users can share their code and contribute to improving it and making it more efficient.

Another great advantage of free software is that it is accessible and free, which democratizes access to tools and resources that were previously reserved only for large companies or institutions.

Additionally, the use of free and open-source software fosters innovation and creativity, allowing users to experiment and try new ideas without restrictions.

Do not forget to collaborate with the developers of free software so that these tools are increasingly accessible to everyone.

What are the principles of permaculture design?

  • Promote Connections

  • Associate complementary elements

  • Each function or need is supported by multiple elements, and each element fulfills multiple functions

  • Rank locations according to frequency of use

  • Maximize diversity

  • Understand and use natural patterns in time and space

  • Maximize edges and transition zones

  • Aim for dynamic stability

  • Use environmental resources

  • Imitate Natural succession

  • Cycle energy

  • Advance by adding small intensive systems that are sustainable

Minga in José Pedro Varela

Beautiful Minga in José Pedro Varela with local people.

More than 20 people from various generations shared work, play, bonfires, music, and talks.

Most importantly, the desire to continue generating this type of activity among the neighbors in the area.

Food Forest Workshop 2021

Another forest workshop where we were left wanting more... more laughter, more art, more work, more nature, more sun, and more community.

May it continue to multiply!

I also share a phrase that Elda brought from Colombia when she visited:

"We are not the tip of the arrow; we are part of a process itself."

Food Forest Workshop 2020

We shared a beautiful weekend with Luis and the neighbors of Espacio Tao.

A lot of learning and good vibes.
